ELEMENTS & CONNECTIONS
AES provides structural solutions for smaller elements and connections present within the larger design, as well as macro-level design solutions. Normally delegated to other firms, AES is capable of providing these solutions in-house to save time, reduce risk, and largely streamline the process. Our work with steel connections includes:
Moment resisting connections
Heavy truss and bracing connections
Specialized connections for field erection
Specialized multi-component connections
Welded exposed tubular connections for which visual appearance may or may not be critical
The tools at our disposal allow for the design of highly specialized and atypical structures including marina structures, boat lifts, craneways, flood gates, airplane hangar doors, and steeple towers. AES’ engineers are accustomed to working directly with our clients to achieve a particular appearance for an exposed connection of series of connections, and we take great pride in fulfilling the owner’s desire for a “one of a kind” appearance in an exposed steel structure.
In conjunction with Atlantic Integrated Detailing (AID), the sister firm to AES, our engineers are capable of bringing a measured strategic advantage for projects involving steel elements. AID is a company comprised of steel detailers, working closely with fabrication facilities and the rest of the design team. For Design-Build projects and projects that are required to be fast-tracked or expedited, AID lends a significant advantage to the team when paired with AES. The combination of AES and AID, with direct communication between designers and detailers, enables the delegated steel connection design to move quickly from design to fabrication.
